Building on the success of its autumn event, Art on Harrison, the Oak Park Arts District launched “What’s Blooming on Harrison” in 1999.  Over the years, this family-oriented May event has highlighted the District through artist demonstrations, live music, dance performances and an art fair featuring select guest artists and local crafts people.  2017’s festival kicked off with a Third Friday Gallery Walk on May 19th.  On Saturday, May 20th, “What’s Blooming” moved outside taking over Harrison Street, from Cuyler Avenue to Humphrey, with the art fair and other Family Fun Activities including a children’s carnival, live music, dance, craft demonstrations and hands-on workshops. The  festival began at 11 am with the art fair running until 7 pm. There was a rocking after party at the Taylor Ave. Beer Garden and main stage.

On the Main Stage at Taylor Ave: The Oak Park String Academy, Lance, baby shark, SAILS, Johnny Moon and the Astronauts (JMATA), Ring Shout, Cardinal Harbor, Attack the Sound and closing out the evening, South City Revival. On the Acoustic Stage at Lombard: The Beatleleles, The Farmer’s Market Band and Jim Haptonstahl. And on the Indoor Stage at Val’s halla Records (239 Harrison): Buzzin Cuzzin, JMATA, Lance, The Riverside Ramblers and Mat Gordon. Look for posters with showtimes at the venues and for more information in the Day of Directory you can pick up at the OPAD booth (corner of Lombard and Harrison).
