In 2008 led by Pamela Penney, a group of the creative businesses in the Oak Park Arts District united to establish the first Children’s Art Camp in the Oak Park Arts District. Art Camp was incredibly successful with many children returning to the seasonal camps year after year. In the fall of 2014, Pamela Penney announced she was stepping down from her role as director.
The OPADBA Board met to discuss various scenarios that would allow for the continuation of Art Camp without Pam at the helm. However, as a completely volunteer based organization with our own businesses to manage, the Board decided that it was not able to oversee a program as complex as Art Camp anymore.
The Oak Park Arts District is filled with creative studios that offer children’s programming throughout the school year and summer. With this in mind, 2015 brought several new and smaller “art camps” run by individual businesses and groups of businesses together so that the District could continue to meet the artistic needs of the community’s children. 2016 is shaping up to look much the same.
