Indulge in the Artistic in the Oak Park Arts District. The annual Holiday Lights celebration kicks off during November’s Third Friday Gallery Walk on the 16th. Special seasonal events within the studios, shops, galleries and eateries continue through the new year. Shop Artfully, Shop Locally… all winter long!

Eastgate Cafe: On Friday 11/16, Lush Life Jazz performs in the evening. Lush Life is a jazz group specializing in music from the 1930s and 1940s, including Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin. Piano, clarinet, and percussion with Kim Healy on vocals. Local favorites Ring Shout perform on Saturday 11/17 from 6:30 – 9:30 pm. Roger Kotecki & Friends perform November 24 at 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm. From Elvis to the Beatles, the Everly Brothers to Linda Ronstadt, the Platters to the Temptations, Roger and Friends will put some cheer in your hearts. And the biggest event of the season, a Wine Tasting & Gourmet Tour of the Balkans. Pearled Shoebox Vintage: Pearled Shoebox Vintage will be the first stop on the Brown Boutiques Holiday Tour. The tour spotlights minority and women owned boutiques. Refreshments provided plus a food vendor on site with a lunch menu. Saturday, November 17, 12 – 5 pm. 140 Harrison Street
Bead in Hand: Bead in Hand opened 25 years ago and celebrates this milestone with a special sale and the start of its annual Holiday Extravaganzas workshops. In anticipation of observing the big “30” in another five years, the shop is celebrating Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18, with 30% off all Chinese crystal strands including new inventory. For this year’s workshop, the shop offers its popular snowflake ornaments in three sizes for $6, $12 and $15, materials and instruction included. 2 – 5 pm. Holiday Extravaganzas runs November 17 – December 22, on Fridays from 2 – 6 pm and Saturdays from 2 – 5 pm. Later in December, the shop hosts its annual Winter Break Drop-in Workshops. Ages six and up can make a snowflake ornament or a memory wire bracelet. December 27 – 30 and January 2 – 5, 2 – 6 pm. $6 – $15 depending on project. Open Door Theater: Celebrate the changing seasons with Autumn Splendor- an Evening with Claudia Schmidt. Folk singer and storyteller extraordinaire Claudia Schmidt returns for her third appearance at Open Door. For long-time fans, savor the richness of music created over a lifetime: old favorites, more recent favorites, and works on her latest CD Concinnity. A hint for anyone reaching for your dictionary – the word absolutely reflects Claudia’s relationship to her music. For the exact definition, come see the show.
